Sora

A rural farm town way off the beaten path. It's about a 2.5hr bus ride southwest of Rome, but a beautiful gem surrounded by mountains right next to a national park called Parco Nazionale D’Abruzzo Lazio e Molise.

1st Farm WWOOFING Experience @Italy Farm Stay. WWOOF is a worldwide movement linking volunteers with organic farmers and growers to promote cultural and educational experiences. I worked on this farm for 10 days in exchange for my room and board plus food. I’ve never worked on a farm before, but I love being outside in nature and working with my hands so I figured I would give it a go. Words cannot do it justice of what I have gained and taken out of this experience!! WWOOFing is an incredible way to experience a true area and not what normal travelers would see/experience when on holiday! I highly recommend this way to travel abroad, when possible. *Note some farms have a minimum stay required.

My last day of work @Italy Farm Stay I harvasted this small garden of Lava Beans & Peas

After I plucked all the lava beans, cut all the plants down and chopped them up & turned the soil
The owner said, by chopping the plants like this all the seeds drop and new plants will begin to sprout
Next step took all the lava beans & peas to the university students for shorting & peeling

Paco is simply a joy to be around!! So helpful, gave us rides to town, helped translate, and even shared his beer with me one lunch ;)
